ARTIST Yan Yang

Works by Artist Yan Yang.

Born in Hebei, China, Yang Yan later moved to Taiwan.
A renowned Taiwanese singer, she won first prize in a Taiwan singing competition at the age of 18 — at the same event where Teresa Teng took first prize in the children’s category.

She rose to fame in Taiwan’s music scene in the 1960s with her hit songs Apple Blossom and Wang Zhaojun. She was honored as one of the Top Ten Singers of the Far East and one of Taiwan’s Top Ten Singers.

What is less known is that Yang Yan is also an accomplished painter. She specializes in traditional Chinese painting, particularly peonies, which she renders with rich color, lyrical rhythm, and vivid spirit and form.

She currently resides in New York, USA. In 2001, she made her art debut by participating in the Autumn Group Exhibition held by the World Art Center in New York.
