FAMOUS ARTIST Moheng Tao
An international awarded artist.
Mr. Tao Moheng- An international awarded artist, was born in Dalian, China in 1949. When he was 18 years old, he began to study traditional Chinese paintings and calligraphy. In the 1980s, Mr. Tao Moheng traveled over China including the Minority people areas, collecting a great number of first-hand painting materials, in order to master the quintessence of Chinese traditional arts.
He had been to DunHuang three times just for learning the soul and skill of DunHuang Arts. He spent 5 years in Mogao Grottoes which was once a strategic site on the Silk Road and also formed the special style of temple mural paintings. The first Grotto is believed to be built in 366 AD, with the number eventually growing to more than 1000. Today, Mogao Grottoes has become an important tourist attraction and the subject of archeological studies. It was inscribed on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites in 1987. Artist Tao has imitated thousands of DunHuang paintings including more than 100 copies of large mural paintings. He had his sole exhibitions in Beijing, Dalian China and Russia, Japan, Singapore and he was greatly praised. He is one of the best DunHuang Artists in China now. His work— “Flying in the Sky” was brought to Space by China Aircraft “Shenzhou 7” in September 2008.
