Artist Allyn Harris
A lifelong resident of Baltimore, Allyn Harris has, throughout his career, devoted himself to creating a vast body of artwork, and to engaging in an extensive and personally gratifying college-level teaching career, providing instruction in a multitude of subjects ranging from Painting and Printmaking to Fashion Illustration and Visual Merchandising.
Allyn was fortunate to have acquired his own education at the Maryland Institute College Of art, Johns Hopkins University, and Syracuse University. Some Notable highlights of his diverse career include studies with world-renowned artist Josef Albers at Syracuse University and numerous one man exhibitions, including a major one at The Baltimore Museum Of Art, juried by many of Baltimore’s outstanding artists. Award winning works were also featured in group shows held in key venues in Baltimore, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, and Seattle. Jurors for group shows included artists such as Rueben Kramer, Lowell Nesbitt and Keith Martin.
While Harris’ teaching career embraced several venues, his principal years of service were devoted to Baltimore City Community College where, in addition to his instruction, he played a pivotal role as one of the original full-time instructors, dedicated to building the Art Program. As curator of the professionally appointed Art Gallery, he organized exhibitions of works by well-established artists, as well as by students and faculty. Over the years, Harris found himself the recipient of several awards for outstanding instruction and service to the college.
